At nightfall in summer and during the Christmas Market from the end of November to the end of December, the Chroma show will amaze young and old. (free - on the cathedral square)
If you come at the end of the year, the essential visit to the Christmas Market is a good idea. Don't just stop at the chalets, but many shops are worth a detour.
In fine weather, Les Hortillonnages, floating gardens on the Somme, are a nature getaway in the city. By boat, on foot, ... as you wish! Its 300 hectares of water gardens have earned it the name of Venice of the North. In the past, they were only market gardeners. They cultivated leeks, cabbage and carrots for the Amiens. Today there are only a handful of urges to cultivate the black and fertile soil of Hortillonnages and make it their profession. Every Saturday, they sell their products at the water market in the Saint-Leu district. The opportunity to get good fresh vegetables to prepare the famous soup of Hortillonnages. On the 3rd Sunday in June, dressed in their traditional costumes, the market gardeners descend the Somme as they once did, in a cornet boat. Arrived opposite the Bélu quay, they sell their vegetables on Place Parmentier. The plots have become pleasure gardens for Amiens looking for nature and healing. We come there on Sunday with family or friends to share a picnic, a barbecue or a fishing trip.
