18 km from the gîte, Villers-Bretonneux is worth a detour for its Museum and its Australian interpretation center which tells the story of the First World War.
Sometimes poignant, often moving: the Sir John Monash Center tells Australian history on the Western Front, with the words of those who served there. It is a unique, interactive place. You can download the application on your smartphone beforehand, all you have to do is connect, bring your earphones and let yourself be guided ... (if you don't have a smartphone, no problem, a guide will advise you willingly lend an audiophone). At the heart of the Center is a 360-degree cinema room that immerses the visitor in the heart of the battles of Villers-Bretonneux and Hamel, to experience the Western Front like never before. Do not miss one of the sessions. We come out moved. It is preferable, in April, to book your visit, because there is a large crowd at the time of Anzac Day. Free entry. You can easily spend several hours there. Snacks are available. More info on sjmc.gouv.au
The Franco Australian Museum, rue du Victoria, has been renovated and has a collection of objects donated by Australian families ... to discover. We visited it with a guide, but also once without a guide. With the explanations we better understand the existence of this museum and we discover the stories behind each object.
Paid entry. More info Museum in rue Victoria (school)
